Fortified gateway

The opening of La Foradada passage forced the closure of the northern entrance to the site. It also led to the construction of the fortified gateway, which was possibly built in the late 16th century and underwent many successive alterations. In the 19th century, there seems to have been a bell located on the upper floor of the tower above the door, while in the early 20th century there was a protruding machicolation that was later turned into the current window. Next to the machicolation there had been a niche with an image, possibly of St Michael.

After passing through the fortified gateway, you will find a square in front of the priory. The square is wedged between the rocky walls that act as a supporting wall for the square itself and the priory. Next to the square, there are several channels that form pools and carry the water through the rock.
